Mirrors

Mirrors are an integral part of the TIME series. Important both literally and metaphorically, mirrors disperse light and energy within a space and direct it to places that are perhaps otherwise unreachable. They capture ambient light and redistribute it. In feng shui, mirrors can influence the home by activating light and energy in many ways: circulating, reflecting, deflecting, amplifying, multiplying, doubling and projecting it (adapted from Feng Shui Your Life, Jayme Barrett, 2012).

Mirrors are passive receptors that wait for us to interact with them. They never judge. They show us exactly as we are—both our external and internal selves—with absolute neutrality.

What we see is influenced by our expectations of ourselves. For example, if we allow other people's perceptions of us to create a self-narrative, then we may not like mirrors at all... or what we see in them. However, we cannot argue with the reflection. No matter how we feel about them, mirrors are completely honest.

The mirrors in TIME are framed by ceramic tiles, set in solid oak frames. These mirrors celebrate the spontaneous and detailed imperfection that surrounds us. Mirrors also remind us of of the transience of now because each time we look in one, it is the only time we will see that moment… that reflection. Each mirror is a one-of-a-kind composition.
